Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) overcame Sports Hostel in four tough sets in the Senior State ‘A’ Division volleyball league at the Lal Bahadur Shastri grounds here on Friday.
CIL’s 26-24, 25-21, 26-28, 25-19 victory, their fifth in six matches, took them closer to securing a place in the knockout semifinals of the league which has been reduced to a 11-team affair following HMT and LIC’s pull out.
For the victors, it was newcomer Arun who did the bulk of the work. He was quite a handful for the Hostel defence, while veteran Shankar was quite solid as usual. The Hostel attackers struggled to get past the two injured centreblockers, Jagdish and Chandrashekar, for the better part of the match.
Having lost the first two sets, Sports Hostel, riding on Nagesh’s heroics, pulled one back in the third set.
Unfortunately, the Hostelites could not sustain that show for long, going down without a whimper in the fourth set.
Before much damage could be done, CIL tightened their game to come through in four sets in an encounter lasting 81 minutes.
In a late night encounter, CIL had prevailed over new entrants BSNL 3-1.
