‘Terror’ prankster nabbed
Gulbarga, DHNS: The district police have nabbed an educated, unemployed Muslim youth who had threatened to blow up a temple and mosque in this communally sensitive city, with the intention of fomenting communal disharmony between Hindus and Muslims.

The famous Sharanabasaveshwara temple and Mehbas masjid received separate anonymous letters saying they would be blown up, and the women worshipping there molested. M N Nagaraj, the additional SP, on Friday said the police team had nabbed the man who sent the letters. Acting on a tip-off, they arrested Shaikh Yusufuddin (32), an engineering graduate from Dandoti village. He has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

RSS baithak begins in Gadag
Dharwad, DHNS:  The three-day national executive committee meeting of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh began at the Rashtrotthana Vidyakendra at Gadag, on the outskirts of Dharwad on Friday. This is for the first time, perhaps, that the national level baithak (meeting) is being held in this region. RSS Sarasanchalak K S Sudarshan inaugurated the meeting by offering pooja to the portrait of Bharat Mata, after which began the meeting, which was presided by RSS Sarakaryavaha Mohanji Bhagawat. The meeting will be on till November 4.
Among those attending the meeting include Madandas, Suresh Joshi, Suresh Soni, VHP’s Ashok Singhal and Dr Pravin Togadia. Sources say the baithak is expected to discuss various issues, including the controversial Ram Sethu project.

Onion prices crash, farmers protest
Hubli, DHNS: Protesting against the sudden fall in the onion prices at the APMC yard at Amargol near Hubli on Friday, farmers resorted to a snap strike by blocking the National Highway 4 demanding a remunerative price for their onion produce.

This is the third time in the last 15 days that the farmers have come on to the road in protest against fall in onion prices.

On Thursday, onion prices in the APMC yard hovered around Rs 650 to Rs 1,200 per quintal. However on Friday morning, prices drastically fell to Rs 450 to Rs 550 per quintal. Many farmers were even forced to sell their onion produce at Rs 150 to Rs 200 per quintal in the morning. DC Srikar and Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani held a meeting with farmers, traders, and APMC officials.
