Designing building structures which are eco-friendly and in tune with the changing climatic conditions poses a major challenge to the Indian engineers said, Planning Commission member Dr Kirit S Parikh.
Speaking at the inauguration of the third International ‘Structural Engineers World Congress 2007’ on Friday, he said construction industry was a major contributor of carbon di-oxide in the country and a major challenge lay in front of engineers to design structures which have low carbon imprints.
“Engineers should look at designing structures which have low carbon imprint without compromising on the services and aesthetics of the buildings,” he said. Engineers should opt for construction materials like lime stone and sand line bricks, he added.
