Speaking at the inauguration of 24-hour Legal Aid Clinic and Permanent Lok Adalat at the Nyaya Degula in the City, he said setting up of permanent lok adalats will ensure speedy delivery of justice.
“Our courts are not able to cope with the increase in the number of litigations. About one third of the litigations in the country are small disputes and our courts are clogged with such cases,” he said. He added that setting up of legal aid clinics will create awareness among the general public about their legal rights.
“Due to poverty and lack of education in the country a large chunk of the population is not aware of their legal rights. Legal aid clinics would be beneficial to the society,” he added.
Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph said the success of the legal aid clinics and permanent lok adalats depended on the participation of judges and lawyers. He also said the judicial practitioners should ensure that the fruits of development reach all sections of the society.
