Russia launches satellite with dog
LONDON, Nov 3

Russia has successfully launched a second earth satellite half-a-ton in weight and with a dog on board to circle the earth at a distance of about 930 miles, Moscow radio announced today
.
The announcement, in Moscow radio’s home service news bulletin at 11:15 am, IST said the second Sputnik was circling the globe once every 102 mins.

Big-power tricks on Kashmir, dangerous
LUCKNOW, Nov 3

The Union Home Minister, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, declared here today that if the Big Powers persisted in their efforts to incite Pakistan to push through the Kashmir issue in the Security Council and other world forums, it might prove dangerous to world peace.
Pandit Pant was amazed that Pakistan, where there had been no General Elections since its birth, no democracy should speak of plebiscite to Kashmir.

The government and the Akalis tonight appeared to be heading for a confrontation following the failure of the week-long efforts of intermediaries to bring about a rapprochement.
An official announcement, expected today, conceding the Akalis’ religious demands and transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab did not come off.
