Zilla Panchayat Member S N Ramaswamy said that the government will be pressurised through the ZP to increase the daily wages of the workers undertaking jobs under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Speaking after inaugurating the works taken up under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Asagodu Gram Panchayat jurisdiction of the taluk on Saturday, he said under the project, Rs 74 has been fixed as the daily wage in the State. In Andhra Pradesh, the daily wage has been fixed at Rs 84 and in Kerala, the wages are still higher. Hence, the government must contemplate on increasing the wages, he said.
Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Kanthraj said under this scheme, the works entrusted cannot be given on contract and machines cannot be used. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has been implemented in the place of the SGRY Scheme of the government. Rules have been framed for the scheme and it does not face any fund crunch. Those who have received BPL cards can also register themselves under the scheme, he informed.
Asagodu Gram Panchayat President Jayamma presided. Taluk Panchayat member Mansoor Ali, Gram Panchayat Vice-President Gokuldevanna, members ramesh, Lakshman, Nagaveni, Amitha, SDMC President Nirmala and Srinivas were present.
