Bruhat Bangalore Mahangar Palike (BBMP) is holding revision of voters’ list in 12 constituencies, which fall in the limits of erstwhile BMP, from November 2 to 17. The Bangalore Urban district administration will review voters’ list in the new areas of the Palike.
BBMP Deputy Commissioner (administration) S L Manjunath, addressing a press conference in the City on Monday, said the Palike has appointed 668 booth level officers and 696 designated officers for the review.
The officers will visit each household to revise the voters’ visit. Names of those who complete 18 years of age on January 1, 2008 will be included in the list and names of those who died or shifted to other places will be deleted.
The review will be held even on Sundays, he stated. Mr Manjunath said photo identity cards for fresh entries will be distributed after the final announcement of revised voters list, scheduled on January 10, 2008.
However, enrollment of names for the voters’ list is a continuous process. Any person who has completed 18 years of age can enter their names by consulting revenue offices in each constituency.
Mr Manjunath said many Bangla and Srilankan nationals have enrolled their names in the voters’ list.
Unfortunately, names of many genuine candidates are missing. The electoral roll revision will help in solving anomalies in the list. The Election Commission has decided to make photo identity card compulsory to cast vote in the general elections to be held in 2009. Those who fail to find place in the voters’ list will not get chance to vote, he said. For details on voters’ list revision, call: (080)- 22975564.
