Why are the lakes in the city being turned into dumping grounds ?, What are the steps undertaken by the pollution board to save the lakes ?, Why not hand them over to private parties for maintenance ?
These are a few questions that were posed to the Karnataka Pollution Control Board (KPCB), Member Secretary, B Venkatesh on Monday at an interactive meeting by students of various schools across the city.
These students who are part of a survey on ‘Water’ conducted by City-based NGO, Children's Movement Civic for Awareness quizzed Mr Venkatesh and took his views on the problems that the lakes in and around Bangalore are facing and the measures undertaken by the KPCB to save them.
As part of the survey, 40 students from 20 schools across the city have been interacting with the general public, civic agencies like the BDA, BBMP, LDA, Forest Departments and collecting their views and opinions on how to save the lakes and tanks in and around the city.
The findings of this survey would be announced at a conference scheduled to be held in Bangalore on December 5.
