The Congress party on Monday expressed its strong disapproval of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi’s eulogy to slain LTTE leader Thamilselvan saying it would not support any eulogising of terrorism.
AICC spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan, repeatedly refusing to bite questions on whether Karunanidhi had committed an illegal act by praising a person connected to a banned organisation, kept on saying it was his personal opinion to which the Congress did not subscribe to.
“We will not support and encourage eulogising of terrorism in any form. LTTE continues to be a banned outfit in India and the entire country will never forget the terrible assassination of Rajiv Gandhi who was one of the country’s and Congress’ greatest leaders,” Natarajan, who was next to the late leader when he was killed by a LTTE suicide bomber, said.
“The views of Mr Karunanidhi are his personal views, and we do not support his views. There is no meeting point,” she said.
She also refused to reply to a barrage of questions on whether the Congress could take a relook at its ties with the DMK in view of the comments, saying she did not have any further comments to make.
