Lightning kills 6 in Saurashtra

At least six people were killed and five others injured when lightning struck them as unseasonal moderate to heavy showers lashed many parts of the Saurashtra region. Two women were killed and one was injured when lightning struck them at Aditiyana village of Porbandar district, UNI reports from Rajkot, Gujarat.

The deceased have been identified as Lakhuben Dilip (55) and Gita Khima (25).

In another incident, at Ladudi village in Maliya Hatina taluka of Junagadh district, a teenaged girl, Hansa Rathod, was killed when lightning struck her.

Mission head cremated

The mortal remains of Swami Gahanananda, president of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, were consigned to flames at the Samadhighat of Belur Math, the Mission’s global headquarters, on Monday , PTI reports from Kolkata.

Thousands of devotees queued up since morning at the Belur Math to have a last glimpse of the Swami. 

The Swami’s body was kept at he Sanskriti Bhawan in the Math on Sunday night and was taken in a procession to Kathaltala and finally to the Samadhighat for the last rites.

Shilpa lodges  complaint

A complaint was on Monday filed on behalf of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty with the cyber cell of the city police as she was receiving “obscene and vulgar messages” and pictures on her mobile phone for the last three days, UNI reports from Mumbai.

Talking to mediapersons Shilpa’s Public Relation Officer D Bhagwagar said, “She is very disturbed because of the frequent vulgar messages on her mobile,” he said. 

15-yr-old held for raping minor girl

Goa police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for raping a minor girl at north Goa’s Morjim beach. Both accused and victim reside in the Morjim village, a tourism hotspot in the coastal state, PTI reports from Panaji.

“We have registered a case against a 15-year-old boy who raped a 10-year-old girl after taking her to a secluded portion of the beach,” Pernem police, who are investigating the crime, stated.

Police inspector Rajesh Kumar stated that the incident occurred on October 1 and was revealed by the girl to her mother on Saturday. The girl was taken to the spot after she hitched a lift from the boy. After receiving the complaint, Pernem police have arrested the boy.
