The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered the release of former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Akhand Pratap Singh on bail.
He was arrested last month for possessing assets worth more than Rs 200 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income two years ago. Turning down the plea of the CBI, Justice V B Gupta said the stay imposed on a lower court’s order on the release of the former top UP bureaucrat had been lifted.
The trial court had remanded him in 14 days of judicial custody after the interrogation was over. He was granted bail on October 18 by the district court.
On October 22, the day he was to be released on bail granted by the district court, the CBI had approached the High Court for the cancellation of his bail. “Nothing is on record which shows that he would try to tamper with evidence after the lower court’s order,” the court said.
