Serving opium as part of traditional festivities in his hometown has proved troublesome for senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh and Vasudhara Raje's detractors, who enjoyed a sip of the saffron milk laced with opium.
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Act 1985 Court in Jodhpur has directed that a case be lodged against former Union minister and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh and nine others for allegedly serving opium to his guests during a function in his hometown Jasol recently.
The court directed the Barmer police to lodge a case against Jaswant Singh and other BJP leaders who attended his family function “Riyan” where he served saffron milk laced with opium following a traditional custom in the family.
Mostly dissidents
Those who attended the function were the dissidents in Rajasthan BJP including state ministers Ghans Shyam Tiwari, Narpat Singh Rajvi and Madan Dilawar, MPs Raghuveer Singh Kaushal and Kailash Meghwal, former state BJP chief Lalit Kishor Chaturvedi, two Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs Jogeshwar Garg and Shankar Singh Rajpurohit and Chief Whip of BJP Legislature Party, Mahavir Prasad Jain.
Hearing the complaint filed by Om Prakash Bishnoi of Jodhpur, the court asked Balotra police in Barmer district to register a case against the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and investigate the matter.
In the complaint that was filed on November 2, the complainant had submitted before the court that possession and consumption of opium was an offence under the law.
