Arun downs BVS to finish second

M S Arun outclassed veteran B V Srinivasa Murthy 91-12, 72 (48)-12, 57-40, 70-27 in a play-off to finish second in the 38th Senior State-ranking snooker tournament at the KSBA Hall on Monday.

Sajan Bopanna, who won the tournament on Sunday, and Arun will represent Karnataka in the National championships beginning at Hyderabad next month.

Final standings: Sajan Bopanna 1; M S Arun 2; B V Srinivasa Murthy 3; Vinay Katrela 4; B Bhaskar 5; Duncan Mackenzie 6; Madhu Chandra 7.

Volleyball trials on Nov 10

The Bangalore City District Volleyball Association will conduct trials to pick its team (boys and girls) for the State Junior inter-district volleyball tournament at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts on November 10.

Players born on or after 1-1-1990 are eligible to attend the trials.

Anirudh emerges champion

Anirudh K dished a dominating show to outclass Dhruva Kumar 6-3, 6-0 to win the Kensri School Under-10 tennis futures tournament at Kensri School on Sunday.

Results: Final: Anirudh K bt Dhruva Kumar 6-3, 6-0. Semis: Dhruva Kumar bt Rahul Nair 9-5; Anirudh K bt Roshan 9-2.

Queen Star crush BEML (RC)

Queen Star trounced BEML (RC) 6-2 in the ‘C’ Division football league at the ITI ground on Monday. Allen (second and 20th), Dilip (16th, 31st), Kalai (18th) and Mahesh (48th) were on target for Queen Star.

For BEML, Ramanath (36th) and Rudravelu (43rd) scored.

At the 515 Army Base Workshop ground, Minerva overcame Vivekananda 2-0 with goals from Kishore (31st) and Udesh (39th).

Chess tourney from November 9

Innovators Chess Academy will conduct an open classical chess tournament at the State Youth Centre from November 9 to 11. Entries are accepted at the venue on November 9 till 9.30 am. For further details, contact Sushrutha Reddy. Mob: 9886358313.

State-ranking carrom meet

Madhu Carrom Centre will conduct a State-ranking carrom tournament from November 19 to 25 at Kannada Jagrutha Bhavana (Doddaballapur).

The last date for entries is November 10. Details from tournament secretary Madhusudhan (ph no: 98867 33302).

KBA inter-school badminton

The Karnataka Badminton Association will conduct its 2nd inter-school badminton tournament on November 25 and 26 at the KBA stadium.

The event will be held in the team championship format for middle school  and high school students for both boys and girls.
