Rao pegs back Karnataka
Vinaya Rao returned impressive figures of seven for 93 to help Hyderabad dismiss Karnataka for 267 in 77.5 overs on the opening day of their three-day tie in the South Zone Polly Umrigar (under-15) tournament at Thiruvanathapuram on Monday. Electing to bat first, Karnataka couldn’t get any of their batsmen build on their good starts, only skipper Aman Raj managing to reach half-century (57, 101b, 8x4). Vikram Venkatesh (41), Shreyas Gopal (32) and Samarth (35) failed to convert their starts into big knocks.
In reply, Hyderabad were zero for no loss after facing three balls before the day’s play was called off due to bad light.
Brief scores: Karnataka: 267 all out in 77.5 overs (Aman Raj 57, Vikram Venkatesh 41, Shreyas Gopal 32, Samarth R 35, Vishnukanth 25 n.o.; Vinaya Rao 7-93) vs Hyderabad: 0/0 in 0.3 overs.
