Pramila Nesargi said that she recieved the letter dated November 2, issued in the name of the President of India, on Monday morning when she went to the Commission’s office. “The order said that in view of President’s rule, my tenure with the Commission had ended. I am vacating the post since I am a law-abiding citizen,” she said.
Several people who had come to the Commission’s office at Cauvery Bhavan, Mysore Bank Circle, Bangalore, for hearings of their complaints on Monday were anxious about the fate of their greivances. They insisted that Nesargi be allowed to continue so that she could deal with their grievances.
About 70-80 people tried to block the road, but the police pacified them. Some of them then went to the Governor’s office and submitted a memorandum seeking Pramila’s continuation.
Pramila Nesargi said, “As many as 130 cases were posted for hearing today. People had come from Kolar, Belgaum, Chickmagalur and other remote places. They wanted me to hear their cases. But, how could I continue after recieving such a letter. I tried to console them and send them back.”
