The Kannada language should be protected and strenghtened by the border areas. School children in all the villages of Nagalamadike hobli should converse in Kannada daily, said Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Sanna Nagappa.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a programme held at Nagalamadike Government Composite High School on Tuesday. Though the Kannada literature is not inferior to any other language, there has been a drastic decrease in the number of people speaking the language.
The decline in speaking of this language can be attributed to the feeling of disrespect associated with it and also the fear of non-acceptance that plagues its speakers. He also narrated Kumaravyasa Bharata to the children.
Also speaking on the occasion principal Venkatesh said that the role played by the schools and its teachers is very important in the strengthening of the Kannada language. Moreover, the schools in the border areas by making speaking of the Kannada language a necessity can contribute to its growth.
The people of the Kannada heartland should respect their mother tongue and if the language is not spoken it would only lead to its death, observed retired principal S Narayana Shastry.
Moreover, it is not enough if the Kannada language is made the administrative language, it should be the language of the people, he added.
