Mangalore university former vice chancellor M I Savadatti has said that physics is the fertile field for research in basic science and provided ample opprtunities for aspiring researchers.
Inaugurating a three-day special lecture series for post graduate students of physical sciences at the Gulbarga university campus here on Monday Prof.Savadatti said it was a wrong notion that there was not much scope for research in physics adding there were lot of opportunities in various aspects of physics to carry out basic research.
Stating physics was the mother of all scientific research the former member of the Univesity Grants Commission said there may not be immediate results for research in physics but for long term results fundamental research in physics was essential.
Allaying notion that big funds are involved in research in physical sciences Prof Savadatti said science lied in man’s knowledge and one should keep posing questions whether one would be able to find suitable answers or not.
Presiding over the function Gulbarga university vice chancellor B G Mulimani said it was a hallucination that physics was coming to an end and research keep taking place at the demand of the times. Prof Mulimani said based on the old formulae technlogy has been developped. Scince was not static and there was no end for research and discoveries in basic sciences.
Karnataka Science and Technology Academy Member Dr P S Shankar said the academy has evolved a number programmes and schemes for popularising basic sciences which has remained neglected.
The Academy has decided to extend a scholarship of Rs 500 to every student who had scored 70 per cent in PUC and who had opted for science degree.
