Five miscreants dragged a 27-year-old woman from a packed passenger bus and raped her repeatedly near the Konark Sun temple in Orissa. In the meantime, none of the 50 odd co-passengers came forward to rescue the her.
The woman, a resident of Sakshigopal district of Puri, accompanied by a man, was returning in a bus after a visit to the Sun temple when two of the accused travelling in the same vehicle asked the driver to stop and dragged her out before raping her repeatedly at a nearby place, police said.
Two others, who probably followed the bus, joined the duo later and also raped the woman. The bus had left amid little protest from its passengers and staff on Sunday.
Four anti-socials have already been arrested in connection with the case and more than six others including staff of two private buses were also detained to ascertain whether the incident took place with their complicity.
Medical examination of the victim and the accused four was conducted. Some condoms were found from the spot, the sources said.
The accused were identified as Santosh Swain, Gaurang Pradhan, R K Das and Devanand Parida and they heiled from Gop, Konark and Baliguali areas. The staff members of the vehicle have been arrested for not informing the police about the incident. The police came to know about the incident through telephone call from an unidentified person.
