The Chairpersons and members of the Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission’s met on Tuesday in the City to approve the by-laws for the forum. Speaking to reporters, K P Pandey Chairman, Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) said that the main objective of the SERF would be to give impetus to non-conventional energy and to enable the member States to share energy on uniform basis.

“The main focus is to promote non-conventional energy in a big way where there can be common transmission, distribution and wheeling charges. The objective is to pave way for States which have rich resources of non-conventional energy to transfer this form of energy to other States which do not have such resources, ” he said.
Setting up of a Consumer Advocacy in the Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commissions on the lines of the KERC’s Consumer Advocacy Council to solve the consumers problem is among other important objectives of the newly formed forum.
The headquarters of the SERF will be located at Bangalore and K Swaminathan, Chairman of the APERC will also be the Chairperson of the SERF.
