New SWC chief takes charge

Women and Child Welfare department Secretary Dr Shalini Rajnish took charge of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission’s chairperson’s post on Tuesday, in pursuance of Government order issued on Monday. The complaints pending hearing would be dealt with by the in-charge chairperson on Tuesdays and Fridays of every week.

HC moved over gomala land

The High Court on Tuesday admitted a PIL seeking a direction to Revenue authorities to retain about 30 acre 19 gunta gomala land in Bidalota village, Hollavanahalli hobli, Koratagere taluk, Tumkur district.

The petition by S H Nagaraju and some other residents of Bidalota village, stated that the gomala land in Bidalota and Chamanahalli villages was being diverted for bringing up Morarji Desai Residential School. Despite public protests, in the past, against diversion of the gomala land, authorities have hurriedly taken up construction, they alleged.
