The two-year-old child, the second born to her parents Shambhu and Poonam from Ahraria, Bihar, was successfully operated upon at Sparsh Hospital, Narayana Health City, Bangalore. The surgery began at 7 am on November 6 and was completed the next day at 10 am.
Led by Dr Sharan Patil (42), chief orthopaedic surgeon, chairman, Sparsh Hospital, the team of surgeons and doctors comprised doctors Yohannan John, Ashley D’Cruz, Thimappa Hegde, Ashok Koul and Sanjay Rao.
Consultant
Dr Sharan, MS and MCH (superspeciality) from Liverpool, has trained at Alder Heys Hospital in the UK, known for paediatric orthopaedics.
He was a consultant in Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, for nine years. His interest is in joint replacement surgery and paediatric orthopaedics.
Dr Yohannan John (46), chief anaesthetist, director, Medical Services, Sparsh Hospital, graduated from Bangalore University and trained in anaesthesia in the UK and Ireland.
He has worked in several hospitals and earlier headed the department of anaesthesia, in Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bangalore. He has special interest in paediatric anaesthesia.
Dr Ashley D’Cruz, (55) head, Department of paediatric surgery, Narayana Hrudayalaya, has done MCH from PGI Chandigarh and has worked in the UK. MS of St John’s Medical College, Bangalore.
Trained in Nimhans
Dr Thimappa Hegde (50), director, Narayana Institute of Neuro Sciences and senior consultant neuro surgeon was earlier in the Department of neuro surgery, Nimhans. He has also trained in Nimhans and has done a short fellowship in the US.
Dr Ashok Koul, (44) consultant plastic surgeon, Sparsh Hospital is an MCH in plastic and microvascular surgery from PGI, Chandigarh.
Dr Sanjay Rao (40) paediatric laproscopic surgeon, Narayana Hrudayalaya, trained in Mumbai, the UK and Australia. He specialises in surgical intensive care.
