Mind your mind
Eric D Jacob
Children can easily be taught to think with purpose and clarity. Good thinking habits means zero negativity.

Do we ever sit back and think about our children – the future generation? Not very much. Recent studies have shown that the science of Mind Power is a powerful gift any one can use to change his or her life.

We need to understand that over the years our curriculum in schools teach one everything one needs to know through the familiar subjects – but the proper use of the mind is never a part of the regular curriculum. We need to teach children how to think with purpose and clarity. It can be taught at home by parents – it’s their responsibility to instill in the minds of children good thinking habits.

Thoughts are real forces in a child’s world and every aspect of a child’s life is influenced by the thoughts he thinks every day. Remember, “you are what you think all day long”, and you become exactly the way you think.

Zig Zaglar in a National Best seller, Raising Positive Kids says you are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. “My experience with children and youth has revealed that a good number of them suffer from negative thinking. In some groups I had a whole class raising their hands when asked the question, “Do you suffer from negative thinking?”

Let’s not forget that thoughts have energy and they impact the life and personality of the child. Today, bringing up children is more difficult than it was a generation ago. There is a way to cope with the problem and fill the gaping holes and help your children lead a successful and happy life.

Thoughts lead to beliefs, beliefs lead to action and action leads to results. Change the thinking pattern – teach them the ‘How’ of positive thinking, this will change their negative beliefs to positive beliefs and you will notice consistent and regular improvements in their personality, attitude and behaviour.

As parents there is a constant fear in our minds about the happenings in the world, the threats, fears and pressures that children face on a day to day basis. What will influence their mind? Who will influence them and what will they ultimately become.

The media covers this extensively. Children involved in heinous crime, acts of violence, rape, murder – you name it and it has happened in this world – all building negative attitudes in them because of real time reporting through the media, literature, and video games etc. They learn by watching, feeling, thinking and then doing. We can’t blame them. That’s the exposure we give them – and that’s the personality, attitude and behaviour he or she develops.

All this can change if parents, teachers and care givers can help them and teach them how to use the powers of the mind to achieve success and excellence and build a positive self image.

The power of thought

The scientific world has discovered that every thing in its purest form is energy. The chair you are seated on, the walls in your home, the dress you wear, the books you read, all at the very basic level is vibrating energy. The thoughts children think consist of the same energy and are a powerful force to reckon with. Thoughts are always trying to find a place to manifest themselves in the physical realm.

When you take a jar of water and put it into a bowl it quickly fills the bowl and leaves no empty space. Negative thoughts do exactly the same thing to the mind. They grow on you and very soon engulf your entire being. This then impacts your emotions and before you know what has happened your behaviour, attitude and actions reflect exactly those negative feelings.

Try burning some paper or charcoal. Sparks fly out. They contain the essence and power of the flame but they rise in a flash and dissipate quickly. Think of placing some powerful thoughts in your child’s mind – if unaided they are like the spark – powerful yet not long lasting.

Through repetition our thoughts can become concentrated and their focus magnified. Remember, what you did to your child when he had to learn his multiplication tables or a poem. He repeated it, said it aloud, wrote it down and I am sure today he has mastered it. That’s exactly what he should do to build a positive self image.

“The mind is where the future is born”. Look back into history. Everything started with a thought in the mind of man. Then, using the power of the imagination and creative visualisation he developed the thought. He believed it was possible and his belief created the reality.

It’s the same principle here. Help your children to direct their thoughts from negative to positive and using the power of the imagination and creative visualisation build that powerful mental image. It will change their lives.
A Max Steingart says, “If you have the desire, you have the power.” That’s the power that lies within us. Every child is a bundle of potential energy. He only needs to convert the potential energy into kinetic energy and be assured you can see miracles happening in his life.

Your child must learn to be the master; he or she has the ability to control his or her thoughts, once learnt. It’s rightly said that when the child is born, his mind is like a garden, with wonderful, attractive and colourfully bright flowers. Over the years, since he has never known the keeping of his mind, weeds start growing. These are negative thoughts and the purity and freshness of the garden will change.

Now that your child is in control he can regularly weed his minds so that it remains fresh, positive and full of powerful energy. That is the power of the mind. When you change your thoughts – you reinvent your life.

THE POWER OF REPETITION

Anthony Robbins, a renowned motivational speaker says, “Repetition is the mother of all skills.” The more you repeat a thought, it will generate tremendous energy and power till your body vibrates with that energy.

Make your child repeat the affirmation, “I always succeed”, every day for the next ten days, morning and evening forming a mental image in his/her mind, hearing the sound of the words and experiencing the feeling with intense emotions. It has to make a change because at this point something happens.

The belief changes and the subconscious mind which is our powerful ally, picks up the message. It cannot distinguish between right or wrong or true or false. It only obeys the command you’ve given it. It gets into the web of reality surrounding you and directs all your energies towards success and excellence. In fact your child will be excited as the windows of opportunity open up right in front of him or her.
