Irregularities in ration distribution: Villagers stage protest
DH News Service, Kunigal:
Tension prevailed for a while in front of the tahasildar's office in Kunigal on Wednesday, when hundreds of villagers from Katrighatta, Kulumepalya, Hosur, Gowdayyanapalya staged a protest against the irregularities in the ration distribution.

The villagers led by Premkumar, Viswanath, Gangadhar, B M Huchchegowda raised slogans against the officials who have allegedly involved in malpractices. The protesters alleged that the officials have not been distributing ration in time for the last few months and a lot of discrepancies were found in the distribution also.

The officials distributed the ration irregularly and also the distribution lasted only for an hour. They did not even inform the card holders as when they would distribute the ration. Hence, all those who were entitled for the ration had to return empty handed.

When asked about the irregularity, the officials did not heed to address their grievances and did not give explanation either.

“We have distributed whatever ration we have in store,” said the officials. The complaints given to the Food Department officials were not yet all considered. This led to the angry villagers to stage the protest, demanding the officials to set right the issue.

BPL cards

They also alleged of irregularity in distributing the BPL and APL cards also. Those who have more than 20 acres of land have also been given BPL cards, while the actual beneficiaries were given APL cards, they said demanding re-consideration of the BPL cards distribution.

Problems

Tahasildar B Shivaswamy discussed the problems of the protesters and assured of addressing their grievances. He also said that he would look into the irregularities in the distribution of BPL cards. Following the tahasildar’s assurance the villagers withdrew the protest. Food inspector Rangadhamaiah, Inspector Srinivas and other officials were present on the occasion.
