In the space of a few days, General Pervez Musharraf has brought Pakistan to the verge of total collapse. In order to ensure his continuation as the “alpha male” of his country, he has not only brought anarchy there, but also has let the dreaded Taliban take full advantage and impose their power over several towns of the troubled North West Frontier Province. They have brought back Sariat law there, and had the temerity to bring down the Pakistan flag on all government buildings in those towns.
How far the situation will snowball and how much worse it will become is anybody’s guess. Musharraf, who had given the impression of being moderate and capable of intelligently managing in the face of numerous difficulties on all sides, has failed merely because of his selfishness, and may finally turn out to be the worst leader Pakistan ever had!

Dravid’s knock
Sir,
Rahul Dravid hit one sixer which hit a glass pane of the Press box located in the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai during the Ranji trophy match between Karnataka and Mumbai. If the sixer had hit the enclosure of the selectors, it would have probably woken them up to reason!
Dravid did not do well in the previous outing which made the selectors to drop him for the first two ODIs against Pakistan. But, Sachin Tendulkar was not dropped from any of the ODIs when his batting was pathetic. Rahul’s double century is a fitting reply to the selectors!.

Rahul’s reply
Sir,
Rahul Dravid was neither emotional nor a critic when he was dropped from the team for two ODIs against Pakistan.
But, he did not let go of an opportunity to give a fitting reply to the selectors by playing a superb knock in the first Ranji match against Mumbai. His knock not only rescued Karnataka from a humiliating defeat but proved that the selectors logic to keep him away is absurd.

Avoid crackers
Sir,
The editorial, Festival of light (DH, Nov 6) perfectly captures the need of self-restraint on the use of fire crackers during the festival season. Diwali, the festival of light, is all about renewal of oneself and symbolically dispelling the darkness within.
The external part of the celebration is good but it should be carried out with due respect to human life and environment. As responsible citizens, we should be able to dissuade ourselves from the use of crackers that carry highly harmful substances.

MK’s mourning
Sir,
Referring to Mourning Tamilselvan: Crying foul over a dirge (DH, Nov 6),there is nothing wrong in M Karunanidhi's dirge on the death of Tamilselvan who was killed in an air raid by Sri Lankan air force.
Karunanidhi’s position as Chief Minister need not come in the way of expressing his sorrow and personal feeling over the death of Tamilselvan, because he and DMK are well known supporters of LTTE. Congress knows it very well, and yet DMK is still in UPA.
