Sources said, activists of the All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) set the Bagetar station on the Lumding-Silchar division of the Northeastern Frontier Railways on fire. They resorted to the move to enforce a shutdown across the NC Hills district.
The ADSU had called for a 36-hour-shutdown to press for its demand for a separate state for the Dimasas. The Dimasas happen to be the dominant tribe in NC Hills with a spillover population in neighbouring Karbi Anglong district of the state. At least two trains were stranded due to the arson at Bagetar. The miscreants also damaged the signaling system.
