Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) chairperson Nafisa Ali on Wednesday said filmmakers in India lacked in commitment towards making children’s films and appealed to experienced directors to actively participate in the children’s film movement.
Ali, who was announcing the line-up for the 15th International Children’s Film Festival (ICCF) to be held in Hyderabad from November 14 to 20, said that to give a fillip to children’s films in the country, CFSI would start a biennial National Children’s Film Awards from next year, alternating with the biennial international festival.
“As far as children’s filmmaking in India is concerned, filmmakers are lacking in commitment… I hope better and more experienced filmmakers will actively participate in children’s filmmaking as a mission,” she said.
Superstar Aamir Khan, who is making his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par — a children’s film — will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the ICCF, she said, adding that films like Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish by Rakesh Roshan, which were essentially children’s films, had been superhits.
“If Rs 30 crore can be spent on films that flop, why cannot one make children’s films. Any film that has children as a target audience is a superhit. I think Roshan has mastered that art. And films like Iqbal are good films,” she said.
