Punters betting on Yeddy as CM
By Shonali Misra, DH News Service, Bangalore:
Betting on cricket is passe. The latest craze among punters is the on-going drama on government formation in Karnataka!

Probably as an after effect of the high capital inflow into the country, crores of rupees are apparently being bet on the future of the State government. According to sources, the highest bid is on the BJP-JD(S) combine coming to power again, with B S Yeddyurappa becoming chief minister.

The next bid, apparently, is JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda’s elder son H D Revanna becoming deputy chief minister in the new government, pipping both his brother and former chief minister Kumaraswamy and Cheluvarayaswamy.

Akin to betting in other fields, the profits in this line too are phenomenally lucrative. Apparently, in this power-game, a person who places his bet on any particular option will make a profit of 100 per cent at the ratio of 1:2, the networking person (one who arranges the transaction), gets around 200 per cent; and finally the person or group that takes charge of the “infrastructure,” gets around 500 per cent. If sources are to be believed, associates of the political parties are involved in the game, even if it is through a safe multi-networking system that would not point fingers at any one person or party.

It seems this new scheme of betting begun “soon after the unholy nexus was revived in late October,” and would continue till the final decision on formation of the government (the later the better!)

To the chagrin of state Congress leaders, dissolution of the Assembly or continuation of President’s rule in the State, does not appear in the betting options at all, with all the money pitted on only the BJP-JD(S) combine sitting on the coveted gaddi.

The betting is based out of Bangalore and runs only on the word of mouth as those involved in it believe that “betting through electronic means is not safe!”  Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal Hosur, said, “Nothing of the sort has been brought to my notice,” reaffirming the discrete operation of the nexus.
