The university has decided to cancel the examination centre of Goutham College and file a case against it.
Uma Shankar Singh, a student of MSc (biochemistry) from Goutham College here, was awarded low marks despite his good performance at both III and IV semester MSc examinations held in January and June 2007 respectively. When he brought it to the notice of Vice Chancellor Prof H A Ranganath, he asked IV semester custodian, Dr Karigar of Chemistry Department to probe the matter.
On September 27, the Vice-Chancellor appointed Prof Vijaya Murthy as inquiry officer to conduct a detailed inquiry, in which the principal and invigilator, along with the relevant diaries of all the III and IV semester examinations and all MSc students (Biochemistry) were summoned.
During the inquiry, Principal K M Manohar was questioned regarding invigilator’s diaries, receipts of records on issue of answer books, etc. The principal admitted lapses on the part of college in not recording names of the invigilator in the answer book issue register. The officer made inquiries about answer books not distributed in a serial order.
Shankar was asked to identify his answer scripts from among all the answer scripts of III and IV semester papers. He was also asked to write a paragraph on a plain paper and affix his signature. The register number of answer scripts (coded) kept separately by custodians were matched with the answer scripts selected by Shankar.
It was revealed the register number matched with the register number of another student.
The inquiry officer pronounced the answer script of the student and invigilator’s diary appeared to be tampered with.
