Nobel Peace Prize for Mahatma
Sir, Michael Sohlam, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation, has regretted the foundation’s decision of not honouring Mahatma Gandhi with the Nobel Peace Prize even though he was nominated five times.
The Nobel Committee could have corrected its omission by awarding the Mahatma the Prize posthumously. But, as per their constitution, the Nobel Prize cannot be awarded posthumously to anyone.
But my question is whether a “Nobel” soul like Mahatma Gandhi could make the Prize more noble or it would have been a feather in the cap for the foundation? Not only the Nobel Peace Prize, Mahatma also did not get the Bharat Ratna.
It’s true, that both the awards are conferred on people in recognition of their life time achievements in their respective fields. But Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution to humanity is above such awards.

Age of overkill
Sir, It seems Sonia Gandhi is neither frustrated with the Left nor the Opposition since she has the full backing of the US. Politically, the Left have enjoyed for the first time “power without responsibility”. They may not like to kill the goose laying the golden egg. But, Sonia, however should realise that the Indo-US nuclear deal will lead to the age of overkill. Pakistan will get more destructive capability from China who might place a hurdle during the negotiations with the Nuclear Supplier Group.

Double tongued
Sir, The conduct and action of H D Deve Gowda and family is not surprising to many who had doubts about the smooth transfer of power when JD(S) and the BJP formed a government 20 months ago. All these days H D Kumaraswamy was asking the BJP to wait till October 3rd.
Now their true colours are out. They openly say that they have found out the communal character of the BJP and it was their sin to have joined with them. It is our fate to have these double tongued orators who speak one thing 20 months before and another thing afterwards, in power.

Power hungry
Sir, This refers to the recent news on H D Kumaraswamy's utterances on power transfer. He must be having two tongues where he can utter two versions whenever he wants to take undue advantage.
H D Deve Gowda has again proved that the people of Karnataka are very correct in anticipating his wrongdoing to other political parties. Gowda has become hungry for power after he lost his Prime Ministership. He wants his family members to be installed in all corners of power forever.

Welcome move
Sir, The dissolution of the Karnataka Assembly and the imposition of President’s rule is a welcome development. Due to political pressures and lobbying, many of the stalled projects hopefully will now be completed. Many infrastructure projects were involved in protracted litigation leading to huge cost overruns.

Think twice
Sir, Regarding the political developments in Karnataka, I think we have had enough of this politics. Lust for power, betrayal, etc. will all be gone for now and we can be peaceful for some days.
It is also people at large who are to take blame for this drama. They should stop voting on the basis of caste, creed and religion. When the time had come for JD(S) to transfer power, then they remembered Babri Masjid demolition. We have other things to do and people should think twice before voting such leaders.
