Arbitration Beyond UNICIP Resolution
New York, Oct. 9.
India’s Defence Minister, Mr V K Krishna Menon, told the United Nations Security Council today that arbitration was mainly a process of judicial settlement and could not be applied under international law to an issue like Kashmir involving vital interests of a country.
Stating that the Jarring proposal for arbitration on Kashmir was “a procedure outside the U N I C I P resolution,” Mr Menon said: “Once we enter into the proposal we would have the sovereignty of our country determined by arbiters who know very little about it.”
Jap Aid To India, A Complex Issue
Tokyo, Oct. 9.
Japan’s Minister for Finance, Mr Hisato Ichimada, today termed as a “complex problem” the reported Japanese plan to extend to India a long-term credit of 50 million dollars in yen to help finance her Second Five-Year Plan.

State MP s Urge PM To Revamp PCC-I
New Delhi, Oct. 8.
At least a dozen Congress (I) MPs of Karnataka have written a letter to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who is also the AICC(I) President, urging her to reconstitute the PCC(I) in the State immediately. The MPs, led by Mr K Lakkappa, Secretary, Congress (I) Parliamentary Party, have also expressed their strong resentment, over inclusion of certain persons in the PCC (I) who had given evidence before the Shah Commission during the Janata regime.
