Karnataka XI batsmen came up with a commanding performance against Bengal XI on the first day of their two-day match at the RSI grounds here on Tuesday.
The home side’s innings featured a hundred and three half-centuries as they rattled up a whopping 419 in 95.5 overs, but they day’s hero was B Akhil who registered the hundred against his name. There was hardly any respite for the Bengal bowlers as the hosts’ batsmen adopted an aggressive approach right from the word go.
Useful stand
Bharath Chipli and Barrington Rowland laid the foundation for the run glut with a sparkling association at the top of the tree. Rowland made 88 off 125 balls with 15 hits to the fence, while Chipli scored 91 off 122 balls with 12 fours and a six.
Akhil and Deepak Chougule too did not waste the opportunity to garner a good score against their name. Akhil made 117 off 135 balls, with 12 fours and two sixes. Chougule, though missed out on a hundred, was equally impressive while making 74 in 122 balls with 12 boundaries.
Bengal bolwers did not have much to remember on the day barring the three-wicket hauls of Ashok Dinda and Murtaza Lodhgar.
