The controversy surrounding appointment of Mr M G Hiremath to the post of Director to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli, has again come up before the High Court.
Earlier, the issue of fight between the present Director and former President of KIMS Pundalik Savadgi had come before the High Court as well as the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT).
Prof Savadgi, who has now been transferred as professor of orthopaedics at Mysore Medical College, has filed a petition questioning the appointment of Mr Hiremath. Prof Savadgi has contended that rules regarding appointment to the post of director have been flouted. As per the rules, an advertisement should have been issued calling for applications for the post of Director. But the appointment of Mr Hiremath was done without issuing any such advertisement.
The Executive Council of KIMS had power only to appoint an in charge director. But it has appointed Mr Hiremath as a full time director.
Mr M S Bhagwath, Counsel for petitioner, submitted that several charges of misappropriation were levelled against Mr Hiremath when he was the in-charge director.

They were brought to the notice of Chief Minister also, he said and sought for ordering cancellation of his appointment. Mr Justice D V Shailendrakumar on Tuesday gave directions for serving notices on KIMS and the government.
