Bhoruka Power’s Rs 42 cr plant
Bangalore-based Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Wednesday, announced the commissioning of 7.2 MW (9 x 800 KW) wind farm in Gadag district at an investment of Rs 42 crore. With this BPCL’s total installed capacity has reached the 100 MW mark. BPCL plans to install two more wind power plants with an investment of Rs 180 crores by December 2008, the company said in Bangalore.
“In our race to 200 MW in the next couple of years, Bhoruka Power intends to add another 30 MW through wind. We would like to have a portfolio of at least 25 per cent wind capacity in the 200 MW green energy basket,” said BPCL Managing Director S Chandrashekhar.
Lupin picks up a Japanese firm
Lupin on Wednesday in Mumbai acquired a majority stake in Japanese generics major Kyowa Pharmaceutical Industry (Kyowa) for an undisclosed sum. With sales of 7.4 billion yen for the year ended March 2007, Kyowa, develops, manufactures and markets a range of generic products in Japan. Kyowa, which is ranked among the top 10 generics companies in the world, makes drugs for psychiatry and neurological therapeutic categories, and in cardiovascular, respiratory and allergies and digestive systems, Lupin said in a release.
It has a strong brand identity in Japan's generics market through its brand AMEL, the release added. Headquartered in Osaka, Kyowa is promoted by the Sugiura family. It has manufacturing and R&D facilities in Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture. Lupin's growth has been fueled by acquisitions with the company acquiring the generics business of Boehringer Manheim, followed by the acquisition of the Ospolot business from Bayer, the sales business of Uji Pharmaceutical and the sales rights to all prescription drugs of MG Pharma.
BHEL EPD bags safety award
BHEL’s Bangalore Electroporcelains division, on Wednesday, announced that it has won the “National Safety Award” for 2006 for its performance in achieving “lowest average frequency of accident rates” and “longest accident free period”. BHEL EPD has own this award for the third year in a row and for the first time under both schem-I and scheme-II, the company said in Bangalore. BHEL EPD Managing Director A R Rao received the award from Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment (Independent charge) Oscar Fernandes on October 7, 2007 in New Delhi.
Coca Cola’s third citizenship prizes
The third Coca Cola Citizenship Challenge Awards, accolades given to units of the Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd for taking up water conservation and community development projects, was recently conferred at the company’s Ameenpur Plant (near Hyderabad). The company’s Vishakapatnam Unit, bagged the first prize for a water conservation initiative which has benefited the community at Pamureli Village, Paderu District, AP. Representatives of the Vishakapatnam Unit, Andhra Pradesh, were felicitated for conserving substantial quantities of water by constructing a dam for diverting stream water to benefit the community at Pamureli Village. This initiative got the top place as it has helped livelihood opportunities for the community through agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry besides seasonal crops by converting 103 acres of forest land to agricultural land.
South Indian Bank Q2 net up
South Indian Bank has recorded a 90 per cent jump in its net profit to Rs 35.69 crore during the second quarter of this financial year from Rs 18.81 crore a year ago. The profit for the half year ended 30th September 2007 is Rs 66.06 crore as against Rs 33.88 crore for that of previous year. Total business has increased by Rs 5,263 crore to Rs. 23,079 cr from Rs 17,816 crore, registering a growth of 29.54 per cent. While deposits has gone up by Rs 3,073 crore from Rs.10,859 crore to Rs 13,932 crore registering a growth of 28.30 per cent, the advances has increased by Rs 2,189 crore from Rs 6,958 crore to Rs 9,147 crore registering a growth of 31.46 per cent.
