Pre-planned political operations
Sir, Now, it has become clear that the JD(S) refusal to hand over Chief Ministership to BJP in Karnataka was pre- planned. The calculation was probably that BJP would not mind letting H D Kumaraswamy continue as CM in order to be in power at any cost.
If the BJP did not yield to their demands, there was the Congress always ready to ally with the JD(S) and they would be contented with some ministries.
Even if Kumaraswamy was hesitant to break the promise, Deve Gowda was always there to ill-advise him as he has managed to restore his grip over this son. All the accusations of Kumaraswmay against some BJP members appeared hollow.
Kumaraswmy has committed a blunder which he would regret throughout his life. People of Karnataka will hopefully teach a lesson to JD(S) which is a party controlled by a single family.

Prez rule
Sir, After lot of speculation, President’s rule has been imposed in Karnataka and the public have heaved a sigh of relief. This system of governance has got a merit that only three senior IAS officers are assigned to work as advisors of the Governor.
The poor will welcome the Governor if he succeeds in controlling the prices of essential commodities and extend some help to the farmer community. If the Governor fulfils the minimum demands of the public they may pray for a longer period of President rule in the state!

The destroyer
Sir, If all of us analyse what has happened in Karnataka in the last one week, we will come to one conclusion. It is neither H D Kumaraswamy of JD(S) nor B S Yediyurappa of BJP nor Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress who is responsible for the current situation.
It is our “humble farmer” Deve Gowda who has brought the bad name for all politicians by giving wrong advice to Mr Kumaraswamy. It is his greed for power, and attempts to place his sons on the higher echelons of power that has caused all this drama. It is high time Mr Deve Gowda retired from politics. He has done enough damage for the state.

Astonishing
Sir, This is with reference to your editorial, Over to Raj Bhavan (DH, Oct 10). The political developments unfolded in Karnataka over the last couple of weeks were astonishing. H D Kumaraswamy humiliated the BJP, insulted its politics and refused to hand over the Chief Minister's office to it, as per an agreement reached 20 months ago.
Then, Kumaraswamy resigned from his post, but before that there was wild, last-minute operation by both the BJP and the JD(S) and this was astonishing.

Right decision
Sir, The Governor of Karnataka has taken the right decision in recommending President’s rule. Deve Gowda and his son have betrayed the people.
Wednesday’s developments prove beyond doubt that most of the JD(S) legislators did not want to break the alliance with BJP. But the greed of the patriarch came in the way. H D Kumaraswamy had earlier agreed to make way for B S Yediyurappa in the presence of the pontiff of Siddaganga Mutt, but went against his word due to the influence of his father. This has obviously hurt the feelings of all
citizens.

Soul search
Sir, It is a sad fact that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has taken on the Left and its adamant stand on Indo-US nuke deal has led to the point of breakdown. Apart from electoral compulsion Ms Gandhi and Congress leaders should realise the fact that the US is using all its strong arm tactics to make India a dumping ground with all its nuclear waste and spent fuel.
