EVENTS IN THE CITY

Flute concert
Swar Sagar is organising a musical extravaganza on October 13 at 6.30 pm at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan. The concert features three generations of a family playing flute together - Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi, Surmani Pravin Godkhindi and Master Shadaj Godkhindi. There will also be a performance by Pravin Godkhindi’s fusion band, Krishna.

Tickets priced at Rs 199, Rs 349 and Rs 499 are available at New Arya Bhavan Sweets (DVG Road, K G Road, Millers Road and M G Road), Calypso Music Store (Jayanagar), Sweet Chariot (BDA Complex, Banashankari II stage), M K Ahmed (Vijayanagar), Temptation Music store (Sampige Road, below R R Gold Jewellers, Malleshwaram). Tickets will also be available at the venue.

On the day of the concert Aalap Events and Media is also launching VCDs and DVDs of the same concert held in Mangalore concert titled ‘Swar Sagar-Pravin Godkhindi Live in Concert’.

Annual Jaagran
The Sindhi Madhur Sangam, a group of 108 devotee couples are having their annual 'Jaagran' – a night long event of bhajans to celebrate Navrathri on October 13, at Gayathri Vihar, Sri Ramana Mahrshi Road, Palace Grounds (entrance between Cauvery theatre and Mekhri Circle), from 9:30 p.m. onwards. The artists this year are Lakhbir Singh Lakha from Mumbai, Suresh Raj from Bhopal and Raju and Murari Dahima from Hyderabad. Contact 9845004868 / 9916307875 for details.

Dasara dolls show
Hymamshu Jyothi Kala Peetha Composite PU College is organising a Dasara Dolls Exhibition from October 13 to 21. It is a unique feature that the dolls are arranged depicting a new theme every year. This practice is going on from the past several years. The venue No:74, Hymamshu Vihar, Hymamshu Sastry Road, 4th Main, Malleshwaram.

Theatre festival
As part of its fifth year celebrations, Rangasiri, an amateur theatre troupe is organising 3 days festival Rangapanchami at Dr Rajkumar Kalakshetra, in the RTO premises, Rajajinagar, from October 11 to 13. There will be staging of three plays -  Prema Churna written by M S Narasimha Murthy (October 11, 7 pm), Dangeya Munchina Dinagulu by Prasanna(Oct 12, 7 pm) and Baaki Itihaasa by Badal Sircar, translated by N S Venkatram (October 13, 7 pm). The entry will be free for all the three days.

Handloom exhibition
On the eve of Dasara festival, the government of Andhra Pradesh and government of India are jointly organising a handloom exhibition at Basava Bhavan from October 9 to 18. This exhibition is aimed at liquidating the handloom varieties at production cost from Madhavaram and Chirala area societies and APCO with twenty percent to fifty percent discount on all varieties.

Navarathri programme
Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple, Rajarajeswari Nagar is conducting special programmes for Navaratri from October 12 to 20. Chandika Paarayana, Mahaabhisheka, Shri Chakra Pooja, Pallakki Seva, Deepa Seva, are some of the special sevas available for the devotees. October16 being Lalitha Panchami "Saamoohika Lalitha Sahasranaama" Seva has been organised.  October 17th being  the Day when Goddess Saraswati is worshipped (Saraswati Habba) artists from various backgrounds will be offering their talent in the form of classical music, dance, songs, bhajans, chants, keertans and slokas. Nimishananda Guruji will be delivering his Aashirvachana at 6 pm on all the nine days. October 19th being Durgaashtami, there will be a discourse by Guruji. Sevas such as Nithya Chandika Homa and Nithya Annadaana which are a regular feature at the temple will continue. For details, call - 65379799 /9341259083.
