The fest kicked off on Friday with a rally by the Bangalore Beetle Club, whose cars were later on display at the fest. One would wonder why a beer fest would have to run through the course of the day but for a city of beer drinkers, like Bangalore, it was ideal. The venue was thronged with the younger crowds later in the night making it seem like any other party in town what was interesting, was to see people earlier in the day.
Rock bands performing live and a crowd of youngsters watched with beer glasses in hand. But otherwise, one could see expat families walking around with their kids, clicking photographs; couples walking around with food and drink in their hands while others sat at the food court. Groups of friends sat with their drink at the beer tent, while others ran about laughing and soaking up the sun and playing the whacky games at some of the stalls. As a bonus for those at the beer tent, there were hookas available as well.
To add to the mood, one of the stalls was offering shoulder massages and another had tattooing. The small flea market didn’t quite serve any purpose in terms of being a shopping experience, but it did see all the women walk through to check out the junk jewellery, stoles and all sorts of odds and ends. There was artwork on display and movies in the evening to add to the fun.
The fest however, didn’t turn out to be the larger than life event that it appears to be from the outside, though the evenings had the usual party crowds. But then, as one saw people lounging around on the grass with their beers and content smiles on their faces, it seemed like they didn’t need anything more than ‘the ground beneath their feet, the wind on their face, and the sun on their backs’ and of course a beer in their hand!
