Yet another hypermarket joins the race of a rapidly growing concept of supermarkets in the City. What sets SPAR, located on Bannerghatta Road (Near Accenture towards Dairy Circle) , apart is the fact that it’s not an Indian chain. It happens to be one of the world’s largest independent food retail chains and has its presence in 34 countries. Says Nigel Rex Bird, Chief Operating Officer, SPAR, “We have brought with us international expertise and standards and yet we are trying to retain a local flavour.”
The minute you walk in, what you notice is the spacious ambience, spread across 75,000 sq ft. What is refreshing is that they haven’t crammed every inch of the space, instead, provided enough room between aisles so as to avoid jostling with other shoppers. Yet another aspect worth mentioning is the kids section filled with games and activities to keep children occupied. The store will have trained personnel to look after the children while parents finish with their shopping.
The first floor is dedicated to fruits, vegetables, meat, packaged foods and all other groceries. Kitchenware, plastics and utensils are also strategically placed in this level. Minor details have been taken into account that help make shopping more pleasurable — a machine that will contain the smell of meat, is in place. This floor also has a bakery, a sweet store and a wine and spirits section.
The next floor offers health and beauty products, bed and bath linen, gifts, toys, sports and leisure equipment, crockery and much more. This floor also has the apparel section — a line called MAX apparel — that offers a wide collection for men, women and children. The final level has televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, ACs, mobiles, cameras, computers and a whole range of electronics. It also features DIY items and basic furniture.
The store has 30 check-out counters so you don’t have to get stuck in endless queues. They also have a fair amount of parking space and will soon be the only place in the City to have carlifts. Also at the store, will be individual brands opening on the ground floor along with food courts.
