Moot court contest
CMR Law School organised a National Moot Court competition on October 7. Aniket Nikam, Chintan Chandrachud and Parinaz Vakil of Government Law College, Mumbai has got the first place winning a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Rachita Raj, Vikramaditya S Malik and Aanchal Jain of NALSAR were runners-up winning 10,000.
Team from Gujarat National Law university, Gandhinagar were selected for the Best Memorial and a cash prize of Rs 5000/, while Aishwarya C of Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies shone as the Best Advocate and also won a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

The three-day competition which began on October 5 was inaugurated by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph of Karnataka High Court. The participants were judged for their decisiveness, intellect, wit and articulation of both law and fact.

Lecture on legislatures
The chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council, Prof B K Chandrashekar, delivered a special lecture on the ‘Working of Legislatures in India ’, at the Department of Political Science, Bangalore University on October 5.
Describing the legislature as the central pillar of democracy, he dealt at length with the representative, law-making, accountability and functions of the legislature. He lamented the lack of serious deliberations on the Indo-US nuclear deal. Prof Chandrashekar made a strong plea for legislatures to spend more quality time in the house by seriously deliberating on critical issues that come up from time-to-time. Vice-Chancellor H A Ranganath presided over the function and Dr M J Vinod, Chairman, Department of Political Science welcomed the gathering.

Welcome to PG students
Bangalore university has organised a function to welcome the students who have enrolled for their post graduate courses in 48 departments of Bangalore university, Jnanabharati and Central College Campuses. Vice-chancellor H A Ranganath presided over the function.

Yuvajonatsava-2007
The three-day youth festival ‘Yuvajonatsava-2007’ organised by Bangalore University concluded on 5th october. More than 100 students participated in 30 different competitions. The youth festival was concluded by Prize distribution function. The Registrar of Bangalore University  Sanjay Veer Singh, in his presidential address spoke about the relevance of such youth festival and the active participation of the youth to preserve the culture and integrity. Kristu Jayanthi College were the overall champions and V V Puram College were the runner-up.

South African lawmaker visits GCC
Nerusha Naidoo, Secretary, Kwa Zulu Natal Legislature visited Garden City College and interacted with the students as part of the Gandhi Jayanthi Festival.

The government of Kwa Zulu Natal is likely to adopt some model of the law making building and the proposal will be submitted to the South African government shortly. Nerula came to India to attend the Commonwealth Leaders meet.
