Elections to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly also will be held in two phases on November 14 and December 19.
While the results in Gujarat will be declared on December 23, Himachal will know about its next government on December 28. Announcing the poll schedule here on Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy made it clear that extra precautionary measures would be put in place to ensure free-and-fair polls, especially in the communally sensitive state of Gujarat.
For elections to 87 Assembly constituencies in Gujarat, the notification would be issued on November 15. While the last date for filing nominations would be November 22, the next day would be the last date for the scrutiny of nominations.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature would be November 26.
For the remaining 95 constituencies, the notification would be issued on November 21 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be December 1.
For Himachal polls
For elections to Kinnaur, Bharmour, Lahul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, the notification would be issued on October 20 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be October 31. For election to the remaining 65 assembly constituencies, the notification would be issued on November 23 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be December 3. The CEC said paramilitary forces would be requisitioned from nearby states so as to ensure that a strict vigil is maintained during the polls.
