ASC escape defeat
DH News Service, Bangalore:

A late second-half equaliser helped Army Services Corps (ASC) hold Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) 1-1 in the Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

Captain Santosh turned in a Gopal Saha corner-kick from the left in the penultimate minute of the regulation time to share the honours. Earlier, LRDE put behind some lacklustre first-half play with a 73rd minute Satish (Jr) strike.
The experienced LRDE side were the pre-match favourites, but ASC struck rhythm with their attacks early on.

The Armymen raided the rival box with regularly but a goal eluded them. Forwards Dinda and Raju Biswas were fed frequently from either flanks with Choudhary shouldering the responsibility on the left and Thyagaraju on the right.

At the other end, most of the LRDE moves ended prematurely with wayward long rangers as ASC defence  gave little leeway for LRDE forwards.

Both teams failed to break the deadlock in the first session. Choudhary nearly scored for them on two occasions, first with a angled drive  and later, a volley just before the break.

After resumption, LRDE showed lot more purpose, but were far from impressive. On the other hand, ASC looked a pale shadow of their first-half show and chances dried out for them.

Saravana (Jr) gave ASC a scare with two direct free-kick takes on goal in the 59th and 72nd minutes. A minute after his second attempt, he served Satish (Jr) on the right and the youngster shot into the left corner of the net.
That strike seemed to have done the trick for LRDE before defender Santosh spoiled their party with a glancing header.

Other result: ‘A’ Division: Nationals: 4 (Robin D’ Souza 5th,  Om Prakash 29th, 43rd, Shyam Kumar 85th) bt Universal: 0.

Thursday’s matches: ‘A’ Division: RWF vs HMT, 1.45 pm; Super Division: BEML vs SAI, 3.45 pm.
