The Congress party workers worked this time more unitedly to face its rival BJP which was in power. Under the leadership of party observer V Somanna, president Shafi Ahmed and senior leader G S Basavaraju the party workers worked with lot of enthusiasm. Only in two wards the Congress had to face the rebels’s heat. But it was not very serious. The voters were very angry as there were fed up with lack of basic facilities. They had now kept their hopes on Congress. This hope seems to have now come true.
The Rs 54 crore special package which Sericulture Minister Sogadu Shivanna (BJP) announced under his leadership does not seem to have convinced the voters much. Even the JD (S) does not look like having suffered much. Their leaders also had not expected much. Hence their victory has been according to the expectations is what the analysts are talking about.
The election of four independent candidates is also a pointer to those who want to hold the reigns of administration. The Communist party which has got one seat has already made it clear at a press conference before the results were announced that it is not going to support either the BJP or the JD (S). Then is it going to support the Congress? Are the four independents also going to support the Congress? These are questions which the JD (S) is very carefully watching. It is also looking at the possibility of supporting the BJP.
All these questions are going to come up for serious discussion after Gandhi Jayanti. Everyone is waiting for JD (S) supremo and former prime minister Deve Gowda’s moves. How it is going to respond to BJP will also be a pointer to the future development in State politics.
In the coming days who will hold the power in the Tumkur CMC will become clear. However, the Congress with the largest majority looks like holding the reigns.
