JD(S) 45, BJP 39, RPI 7, CPI(M) 1, INDEPENDENTS 29
Rebel candidates cost Cong heavy
DH News Service,Kolar:

It is a major set back for Congress in Kolar with many of its candidates losing the election, and of the 16 winning candidates eight members shifting to Varthur faction.  Rebel candidates in most of the places have proved an obstacle for the party.

Of the four city municipalities and seven town municipalities in Kolar and Chikkaballapur district, the JDS has won majority in three municipalities, BJP in one and in other two independent candidates have emerged with flying colours.  However, no party has managed to get majority and the worse was for Congress which was not only defeated but also has faced threat of rebel within the party.

JD(S) has won the seats at Mulbagal, Srinivaspur and Shidlaghatta while BJP has won all the 23 seats in Malur.
Independant candidates are leading in Kolar, Chintamani municipalities while Vartur Prakash faction won in Kolar, Legislator Dr M C Sudhakar Reddy faction won in Chintamani municipality.

Of 20 candidates from Vartur faction, 14 have won and a few more from Congress candidates, who have won the election are willing to support the Vartur faction leading its strength to total 25.  However none of the parties have managed to win a majority of seats in KGF, Bangarpet, Chikkaballapur, Gouribidanur, Gudibande and Bagepalli and the independent candidates will play vital role in these places.

Of 166 wards in Kolar Congress and JD(S) each have won 45 seats, BJP-39 seats, independent candidates-29 seats, RPI-7 seats and CPM(I)-1 seat.

With Congress losing the elections in most of the places here legislator K Srinivasagowda, Union Minister K H Muniyappa, District Congress unit President N S Bisegowda have faced a set back in their native places. Fourteen candidates who seceded from the party have won the election and these independent candidates seem to rule the roost.

JD(S) has stood against the party successfully and managed to bag 5 wards with prospect of making an effective opposition in the municipality. However, its partner in the State government, BJP has failed miserably to open its account in Kolar.
