Bharatiya Janata Party has bagged all the seats in the Malur Town Municipal Corporation elections. Congress and Janata Dal (S) have not even opened their account here.
This has turned out to be a historical moment for BJP as it has won in all the 23 wards of the TMC for the first time. It is said that the legislator S N Krishnaiah Shetty has played an important role in scripting this win for the party.
Congress and JD (S) have not even managed to win back the deposit in a few wards. Some of the leaders, who were unhappy with the legislator, had joined hands with the JD (S) and Congress. However, this has had little impact on the overall result. Though the JD (S) fought neck and neck with the Congress in a few wards, it didn’t win a single seat.
In ward number 2, 7 and 15 there was a close fight between BJP, Congress and JD (S). However, the sitting Town Municipal Corporation members suffered humiliating defeat in the hands of BJP candidates. In all 18 new candidates have been elected to the 23-member TMC. Only five candidates, who were members last time, managed to retain their seats. Legislator S N Krishnaiah Shetty, along with his supporters, went on a victory march in the town.
In the elections held in 1983 Janata Party had won 14 out of the 15 wards. Congress had bagged a lone seat that time. For the first time in the history of the town a single party has won all the seats this time.
