Total Ban On Consumer Goods
New Delhi, Sept 30.
The new import policy announced for the half year October 1957 to March 1958, aims at further effecting maximum possible economy in the country’s imports by drastic cuts of consumer goods.
There will be no more issue of import licences during this period to established importers of even items such as razor blades, tobacco manufacturers woollen fabrics, cycles, watches, fountain pens and crockery. But, limited imports of essential requirements and medicines will be permitted to established importers.
Mysore Electricity Board Is Born
Bangalore, Sept 30.
The work of generation and distribution of power in the State carried on by the Department of Government during the last 35 years was today handed over to an autonomous body, the Electricity Board set up in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Electricity (Supply) Act of 1948.

Accident Cover For Farm Workers

Bangalore, Sept 30.
Karnataka has become the first State in South India to introduce an accident insurance scheme for agricultural labourers and other workers in the unorganised sector.
The scheme Asha Kiran would cover about 42 lakh workers, Labour Minister Jakanur said here today. Chief Minister Gundu Rao would inaugurate the scheme tomorrow. Mr Jakanur told newsmen that the Government would pay Rs 53.60 lakhs as premium covering the workers.
