The ULFA on Sunday triggered two blasts in eastern Assam that killed one and left 28 injured.
The rebel outfit also gunned down one of its deserters and blew up an oil pipeline. The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) D K Pathak said the outfit triggered two blasts in Tinsukia and Doomdooma in eastern Assam.
While 21 people were injured in the blast in Tinsukia, the explosion at Doomdooma killed one and left seven hurt, he added. Pathak said the man killed in the blast at Doomdooma is suspected to be an ULFA militant who was possibly carrying the explosive that went off accidentally.
Since last January, the ULFA has been targeting Hindi-speaking people in eastern Assam. The first blast took place in Tinsukia’s Benipukhri Tiniali, an area inhabited mostly by Hindi-speaking people.
The target for the second blast that went awry was the shop of a Hindi-speaking trader in Doomdooma.
“Two youths came on a two-wheeler and wanted to keep a bag in the shop owned by a Hindi-speaking trader for sometime. But the trader refused. When the youths were riding back with the bag, the explosion took place,” said the ADGP.
One of the youths got killed and the other was seriously injured. Six others were also injured in the blast.
