Passengers of the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Mail had a providential escape as its engine got detached from the bogies at Veli in this district on Sunday.
The engine ran for quite some distance without the bogies and the driver stopped the engine after he noticed the ‘trouble’. After attaching the bogies, the train continued.
However, the train was detained at Kazhakootam and top railway safety officials visited the spot and made a thorough check on the whole system, including the Central Buffer Coupling System.
The train resumed its journey after a delay of 112 minutes, the railway sources said.
Meanwhile, the Railways ordered an inquiry into the incident, the sources said.
