Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club (HASC) and Karnataka State Police (KSP) were left to rue numerous missed opportunities during a goalless draw in their Super DIvision football league tie at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Sunday.
With a relatively drier field on hand, better finishing skills upfront at either ends could have provided the Sunday crowd much to cheer.
Both sides fielded their best available eleven to start with. HAL won five corners in the opening minutes but conceded the initiative as their defenders failed to dish out a convincing show.
In the 19th minute, KSP striker Karthik caught the rival back-line unawares with a quick turn and served Archan a good ball on the left, but latter faltered with the final touch.
That set the pattern for the day. Sampath Kumar served a good cross to Arun in the 34th minute but his shot was wayward. Karthik almost gave Policemen the lead in the 38th minute as the ball slipped away from HASC custodian Gumpe Rime near the goal line but Karthik could not take advantage.
HASC brought in Kuttiymani for Satish Kumar upfront after the break. Twelve minutes into the second session, a Xavier Vijayakumar floater lurked dangerously in the goal mouth, but KSP custodian Nagendra rose to the occasion.
Another good chance came HASC’s way in the dying minutes, but Bimal Minz’s header off a Kuttiymani cross missed the goal by a whisker.
Result: ‘A’ Division: BHEL: 4 (Ramesh 13th, 24th, Shobhan 35th, Ramkumar 89th) bt Dharmaraja Union: 1 (Praveen 72nd).
