Speaking on the occasion, the pontiff said, the National Service Scheme was one of the best schemes. It helped students contribute selfless services to the society. This helped them to cultivate a sense of service in the future also.
Participating in NSS camps helped the students to inculcate values of life like discipline, commitment, honesty, dignity and decor, which was very essential. Also, urban children are given an insight into the rural life. If students took part in such camps, it would contribute towards the overall development of their personality, the Swamiji added.
Such camps helps in having a broad mind and have a wider perspective towards life. Students can expand their horizon and have a wider canvass to experiment and explore, he added.
Leadership qualities, making adjustments, co-ordination with fellow members, participation in every activities, etc such qualities can be cultivated in the camp, said Deputy Director of the Pre-University Education Department Ramachandra.
Delivering the key-note address, Principal Shivakumar explained in detail about the various activities organised under the NSS, by the College. The programmes were organised in such a way that, both, the students and the community was benefited from it, he added.
President of the Hirehalli Gram Panchayat Shivarudramma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, advised the students to gain knowledge about the rural life. Such camps helped in gaining proper knowledge. Apart from making oneself familiar about the rural life, they should make honest efforts and also try to find solutions to the problems prevailing there, he added.
The NSS camps should help the students in realising their dreams and should ensure that the facilities in the rural areas improved for the rural people, he said.
