'Prepare new voters' list'
DH News Service, Tiptur:

Tiptur City Voters’ Forum has urged the State Election Commission to first prepare a new voters’ list before the next elections and only then conduct it.

After 1995 the new voters list has not been prepared. As and when the list has been checked lot of discrepancies have been found. The list prepared then is still being used for all the elections.

Though every time when the list is being revised importance is being given to the addition of new names but not against the deletion. In spite of the family members or neighbours knowing about this, they try to hide the facts.

During the elections, the candidates or their agents cast fake votes. Though the identity cards carry the photos, it cannot be denied that they get the persons resembling the dead and make them cast their votes.

The election officers do  agree in private that in every booth’s voting list at least 2 per cent of such incidents are reported every time. The commission should immediately come forward to prepare a new list, they have urged in the memorandum.
