Russian dolls and Chinese mini masks find place along with the Garuda Seva organised for Lord Venkateshwara and Lord Krishna and gopikas in this tastefully decorated doll arrangement at one of the houses in Fraser Town, where the Dasara festival is celebrated with much passion and involvement every year.
Enter Veerabhadra Mudaliar Street and anyone will take you to the house of Kavitha, an assistant mistress at R B B P A N High School. No wonder nearly 300 people make an annual visit to the `doll house’ during the festive season to enjoy the sights of the dolls.
A world of spiritualism, realism and entertainment is created near the nine steps atop which the dolls have been positioned. The real-life world: A green carpet symbolises an agricultural land and farmers are seen sowing seeds, tilling, driving a tractor and gathering harvest on the land. A kilo of Ragi seeds sown four days before the start of Dasara on Thursday have sprouted creating the carpet.
The spiritual sphere is symbolised by Lord Shiva and his family seated on Mount Kailash with clouds hovering above. Standing nearby are other Gods creating a heavenly abode. A flowing river, trees laden with rare fruits and the waterfalls contribute to the ambience. There is entertainment in the form of a train chugging around.
An eye-catching sight is a traditional Indian wedding taking place. A modern band troupe playing music is also represented near it. It has indeed been a labour of love for the ten-member group that arranged it that includes her family, relatives and friends. Kavitha’s husband V N Gnaneshwar, an assistant engineer at BEL, has contributed to the lighting work. Daughters Shilpa, a project manager at Harohara Softech Pvt. Ltd and Apoorva, a first-year B Com student at Vijaya College have put in a painstaking effort to make it a success.
So, will it not be a hectic schedule with people coming thronging your house all day. “We enjoy it as we are basically very social and are, in fact, looking forward to it all. We welcome all your readers to visit us too,” says the teacher.
